About
My name is John Henao or as known in the tattoo world “Hence”.
I began my journey to become a tattoo artist in 1987 when I purchased my first tattooing equipment. I practiced tattooing on myself, and voluntarily a few brave friends. It wasn’t soon after I came to realization I would need help to achieve the techniques in becoming a professional tattooist.
Not long from those early days I would find myself traveling to tattoo conventions around the country obtaining knowledge from old school artists. Along this long road I was greatly inspired by a handful of artists from Jack Armstrong, jo-de-bones, Randy Adams, tin-tin, Mario Barth and Brian Everett. In the early nineties I found myself drawn to the tattoo scene in boulder Colorado where I opened my first studio. It was an incredible experience, which advanced my passion for the arts in a profound way. In the mid nineties I moved back to my home state of Connecticut and made some great friends in the industry. we learned much from eachother which has kept me true to the art of tattooing. You can say if it wasn’t for this group of artists Michele, Jim, Barry, Sharron, Sabastian, Roger, Johnny, Marco, and chuck I might not have evolved in the trade without there inspirations.
I spend a lot of time creating art not only on skin but canvas and paper. I have several art books in the making that I hope to publish in the near future. In my studio I show case hundreds of original paintings and drawings to be sold as tattoos or art prints. My studio was built around the concept of giving clients a private setting where they can feel comfortable and have a positive experience. I cater to each client as if it was myself being tattooed. I specialize in custom tattoos bringing clients ideas to form on skin. As a professional tattoo artist I feel its important to spend time with each client and work out their ideas on paper so they get the best translation of what they visualize their tattoos to look like.
At my studio Mammoth Ink Tattoo I work by appointment only on larger works and early morning walk ins from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Shop hours are tueday – Saturday 1:00 to 9:00 pm Late night appointments available for larger pieces only. I am very strict about keeping appointment with my clients and complete their work. My motto is, If I could finish your tattoo in one session I will sit it out for you.
